American Heart Association

The American Heart Association (AHA), founded in 1924 by six cardiologists, is now the oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. With more than 35 million volunteers, supporters, and over 2,900 employees, the AHA is focused on promoting cardiovascular health and reducing the incidence of heart disease and stroke, leading causes of death and disability globally. The AHA has invested over $5 billion in research, making it the largest not-for-profit funding source for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease research, second only to the federal government. Its goal is to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases.

Interview with David Morris Executive Director of the American Heart Association. David mentioned February is American Heart Month which is like the Super Bowl to the American Heart Association. Their focus has been CPR education and with #DoMore24DE their supporters can reach out to donate to help this initiative. Chris and David briefly touched on the horrific Damar Hamlin situation. David stated there was a silver lining to the situation and how it shed a light on how important Hands-Only CPR is and that it should be an essential skill that everyone should have. Mr. Morris encourages everyone to watch the video that only takes one minute to learn and especially since 90% of all cardiac arrest happens outside of a hospital.
